Since the wedding, our blog hasn’t seen all that many updates, so it’s rather quiet here at the moment. The same isn’t true for our real life, though, which is in fact responsible for the lack of energy invested in this website.
Our first two months of marriage are filled with lots of wonderful memories and impressions, but also with a constant packing and unpacking of suitcases. Our plan to make our way to England only a week after returning from our honeymoon wasn’t just based on a love for travel. We wanted to have a bit of time to get used to living together without also working together in the same, rather small office. So housesitting for some colleagues, while they are away on holiday or working abroad, gives us that opportunity and at the same time we can spend a bit more time with our team, which we usually work with from Germany. Another bonus is that Carlisle is conveniently located near the Scottish border, so it’s a great base camp for trips to the Lake District and Scotland. More than a few good reasons for our stay here in the North of England.
As we took the car to get here, London is on the way as well. The first few days were spent there and the last week will be as well, so we got and get to spend time visiting people, going on nice walks, see a musical… all the things one does in a nice city. And then on August 14th, the ferry will finally take us back to the main land. A short trip for an extended weekend in the German “ore mountains” (where Heidi’s family lives) split our stay here in two halves, so it all feels like the time has passed rather quickly.
After 3500 kilometers in the car, about 4 hours on planes, 90 minutes on the ferry, 3 check-ins at hotels and hostels, 7 times packing and unpacking suitcases, we’re slowly looking forward to settling into our home in Solingen again, but that only after 3 more times of packing, 2 check-ins, one ferry and another 1100km in the car. We’re not complaining, though – we’re very thankful for this opportunity. You can get a little glimpse of our activites looking at this picture of our trip to Hadrian’s Wall, where we looked for and found the “Robin Hood Tree”, which was made famous by the Kevin Costner movie.
We should also point out that we’ve been busy creating and sending out prayer letters and thankyou cards. We’ll soon send them out to our English speaking friends as well, but the German ones had to go out while we were there.
Finally, all that remains to be said is that we’re doing very, very well and really enjoy married life a lot
