Well, finally the last weekend provided some story to tell. Besides the fact that I had a wonderful cycle tour to Strasbourg/France I also got to realize how a few seconds could change your life forever.
At the end of our first day my brakes failed as I was going down a very steep hill. My bike was picking up speed and there was nothing whatsoever left for me to do. Although I did look for a spot to turn uphill- the speed was going on 40-50 km/h and that about solved it as far as my attempts were concerned. The next bend was impossible for me to take and I was thrown off my cycle – face first into a bush and overturned. My bike also flew a few meters. During those split-seconds it was very clear to me that this is what it takes to break your neck and either go straight into eternity (after all, it was Ascension Day…) or end up in a whealchair.
Yet it seems that the Lord of the Things did not consider my job on earth as done. As a downright miracle I did have NOTHING besides a few scratches and bruises (not even a tear in my clothes)! Even my bike was ready to go (after repairing those brakes, of course…)
So the next day we were able to continue our tour (which I will tell you more about later this week).
I am completely stunned about how God has protected me (I wasn’t even wearing a helmet… I know…
). Going into eternity would not have been the worst case (who would complain about golden streets…), yet when I start thinking about what else could have happened…
Saying THANK YOU doesn’t really seem to express properly what I feel about it. What else can be said, though? I’m now enjoying my life twice as much, that’s for sure anyway.
How great is being healthy.
I have to admit that I still haven't got a helmet…
are you wearing your helmet these days????
Wow… thats some story to tell. and it must be really memorable to have experienced it.
But you still look like you with that huge smile on your face. Glad to hear you are enjoying life even more now…. Although I thought that was impossible after reading your former blog entries.
As your picture is in front of the sign reading Strasbourg I guess it was after your race down that hill. Just wanted to make sure you were really ok
Yikes!! I'm glad you're okay. It's amazing how quickly life can change and how fast accidents happen. And, it's also true how something like that can give you a whole new perspective on life! God is good!!!
Wow! what a story!!! I'm so glad that you are alive and well!!! Praise God! Looking forward to hear the rest!!
Wow – you need to take care of yourself!
Loved the photos!
